Nexus announced completion of its Monero integration upgrade to support Bulletproofs+ in late February 2026. The update brings the platform's XMR transaction handling in line with Monero's most recent core protocol improvements, delivering meaningful fee reductions for all XMR-denominated transactions.

Bulletproofs+ is a cryptographic range proof system that verifies transaction amounts are within valid ranges (non-negative, within supply limits) without revealing the actual amounts. The "+" variant, introduced in Monero's 0.18 release, uses more efficient proving and verification algorithms that reduce transaction size by approximately 5-7 bytes per output.

Practical Impact for Users

For everyday users, the immediate effect is lower transaction fees. Since Monero fees are calculated partly on transaction size (bytes), reducing proof size translates directly to lower per-transaction costs. At current network conditions, this represents approximately a 6-7% fee reduction on typical two-output transactions.

The upgrade also improves transaction verification speed on the platform's node, potentially reducing the time between deposit confirmation and funds becoming available for spending — a meaningful UX improvement for buyers who are watching for their deposits to clear.

From a privacy standpoint, the upgrade is neutral — Bulletproofs+ provides the same cryptographic security guarantees as the original Bulletproofs, just more efficiently. The fundamental RingCT privacy protection remains fully intact and unchanged.
